The Lauderdale License Commissioner office is an Alabama driver’s license renewal office.  If you currently have an Alabama driver’s license you may renew your license in our office.

Lost or Stolen Drivers License? Don't forget these documents!

Duplicate driver’s license – If your current Alabama driver’s license has been lost or stolen you may be issued a duplicate driver’s license with the following documentation:

YOU MUST HAVE ONE DOCUMENT WITH YOUR NAME AND DATE OF BIRTH, ONE DOCUMENT WITH YOUR NAME AND SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER

  • Birth Certificate
  • Social Security Card
  • Voter’s Registration Card
  • Marriage application from Probate Office
  • Picture ID from current place of employment or school picture ID badge
  • Medicaid card with date of birth
  • Passport or Military ID
  • Pistol Permit
  • Medical Record with date of birth and social security number

CDL, Foreign National, Veterans, Out-of-State License Information

CDL License - can be renewed in our office as long as there is not a Hazmat Endorsement on the license.

Foreign National Driver’s License – must be renewed in the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency office located at 4500 Hatch Boulevard Sheffield, AL. 35660. (256) 383-2923

Veteran’s Designation – Veteran’s Designation may be added to Driver’s License in License Commissioner’s office

Documentation required: United States Military Form DD-214

Out-of-State - must be renewed in the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency office located at 4500 Hatch Boulevard Sheffield, AL. 35660. (256) 383-2923

Star ID -- Effective May 7, 2025

Star ID – Star ID must be issued in Alabama Law Enforcement Agency office located at 4500 Hatch Boulevard Sheffield, AL. 35660. (256) 383-2923

Star ID – New regulations will go into effect May 7, 2025.

IN ORDER TO BE ISSUED A STAR ID,
Applicants must verify their identity and date of birth by providing one of the following documents:

  • Certified Birth Certificate
  • Valid, unexpired Permanent Resident Card (Form I-551) issued by the Valid, unexpired United States Passport
  • Department of Homeland Security (DHS) or Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS)
  • Unexpired employment authorization document (EAD) issued by DHS (Form I-766 or Form I-688B)
  • Unexpired Foreign Passport with valid, unexpired US Visa affixed, accompanied by the approved I-94 form documenting the applicant’s most recent admittance into the United States.
  • Certificate of Naturalization issued by DHS (form N-550 or N-570)
  • Certificate of Citizenship issued by DHS (Form N-560 or N-561)
  • A Real-ID compliant Driver’s License or Non-Driver ID Card

Applicants must verify their Social Security Number by providing one of the following documents:

  • Social Security Card
  • A certified letter (on letterhead) from the Social Security Administration stating the person’s name and Social Security Number
  • United States Military Identification Card
  • United States Military Form DD-214
  • Medicare/Medicaid Identification Card (if Social Security Number is followed by the letter A)
  • W-2 Tax Form

Applicants must verify their address of principal residence by providing any two of the following documents:

  • Voter Registration Card
  • Residential Mortgage Contract
  • Current Lease or Rental Agreement for housing
  • Proof of payment for Homestead residential property tax
  • Previous year tax returns bearing applicants residential address
  • Vehicle registration bearing applicants name and address
  • Utility bill (water, gas, electric) less than 90 days old
  • Any State or Federal Court documents indicating residence address
  • School enrollment documentation
  • Defense Department Form 214 ( report of separation)
  • Sex offender registration documents
  • Current Homeowners insurance policy with name and address
  • Social Security benefits statements/summary mailed to the physical address
  • US or State Government check or other document mailed to applicants physical address
  • Military Orders documenting duty station and place of residence
