Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Marine Police Division Requires The Following For\u00a0<\/strong>Boat Registration:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

An Individual:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  • Bill of Sale<\/li>\n
  • Current Boat Registration<\/span> from Previous Owner if Purchased Out of State or Title<\/li>\n
  • Current Driver\u2019s License or ID<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    NOTE: Bill of Sale must include, Hull Number, Year, Make, Model, Length, AL #\u2019s, Make of Motor, HP of Motor and Motor Serial Number.<\/span><\/p>\n

    CHAIN OF OWNERSHIP MUST BE PROVIDED IF VESSEL WAS NOT PURCHASED FROM REGISTERED OWNER<\/span><\/p>\n

    Beginning January 1st<\/sup>, 2024 certain vessels constructed after December 31,2023 will be required to be titled.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    What is required to be titled:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • Alabama is the state of principal use<\/li>\n
    • Any vessel between the length of 18 feet and 26 feet<\/li>\n
    • Vessels less than 18 feet in length with more than 75 horsepower<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      What is excluded:<\/p>\n

        \n
      • Sailboats<\/li>\n
      • Paddleboats<\/li>\n
      • Rowboats<\/li>\n
      • Documented vessel<\/li>\n
      • Barge<\/li>\n
      • Foreign-documented vessel<\/li>\n
      • Vessel before delivery<\/li>\n
      • Vessel held by a dealer for sale or lease<\/li>\n
      • A vessel constructed before December 31, 2023<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Optional vessels to be titled:<\/p>\n

          \n
        • Vessel more than 26 feet in length regardless of year constructed<\/li>\n
        • Alabama is the state of principal use<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          Paperwork accepted as proof of ownership<\/p>\n

            \n
          • A certificate of title signed by the owner shown on the certificate and which identifies the applicant as the owner of the vessel or is accompanied by a record that identifies the applicant as the owner\n
              \n
            • If there is no certificate of title, the following are accepted:\n
                \n
              • If the vessel was a documented vessel, a record issued by the United States Coast Guard which shows the vessel is no longer a documented vessel and identifies the applicant as the owner<\/li>\n
              • If the vessel was a foreign-documented vessel, a record issued by the foreign country which shows the vessel is no longer a foreign-documented vessel and identifies the applicant as the owner<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                • In all other cases, a certificate of origin, bill of sale, or other record that to the satisfaction of the office identifies the applicant as owner<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
